Salt Works CloseHundreds of thousands of workers are report unemployed as a result of the recent closing of the Chengkou saltworks, on the Shensi border of northeast Szechuen, which, closing, many believe, was deliberately engineered by the Kaihsien salt Producers, who were desirous of cornering that market. The trouble is aggravated by the Government's order that only salt produced in Kaihsien is to be sold in Chengkou. Decidedly angry at the state of affairs, the residents of Chengkou have declared that rather than buy Kaihsien salt, they would go without any salt.
