Definition of "Lieyu"

Lieyu Township, encompassing what is known as Lesser Kinmen Island, is not controlled by the People’s Republic of China, nor is the much larger Kinmen Island nearby, even though both sit on the approaches to one of the mainland’s busiest ports.

According to the report, a total of 20 Vietnamese refugees were shot dead by Taiwanese soldiers from the Army's 158th Division that was responsible for the defense of Kinmen at that time, either immediately after coming ashore on the county's Lieyu Island or later on a boat stranded off the island.
